Beneath the crystalline waters lie mini coral canyons and archways. For many reasons, Sombrero reef snorkeling is considered by many locals and visitors to be some of the best snorkeling in the Keys. Situated right on the edge of the barrier reef, it is marked by a 140 foot lighted tower, Sombrero Light, the tallest lighthouse in the Keys.

Florida Keys snorkeling is a popular activity among locals and visitors alike. The reefs of the Keys enjoy the distinction of being the only tropical coral reefs in the contiguous states, as well as the third longest barrier reef in the world. One way to experience this underwater paradise is a Florida Keys snorkeling charter.
Though many other snorkeling destinations are within a swim from the beach, the only way to reach the best snorkeling in the Keys is by boat. All Florida Keys snorkeling locations have something special to offer, but the reefs of the Middle Keys are fortunately some of the healthiest and vibrant of them all. We offer Sombrero Reef snorkeling trips as well as trips to Coffins Patch. Each charter accommodates up to 6 people. Our private chartered trips allow you the freedom and flexibility to make the most of your experience and enjoy some of the best snorkeling in the Keys.
Beneath the crystalline waters lie mini coral canyons and archways with all ranges of depths. Exploring the varied topography is one of the highlights of snorkeling Sombrero reef. The spur and groove formation, ranging anywhere from 8 to 20 feet deep, provides an interesting underwater environment for all experience levels. A particular point of interest to many snorkelers is a swim beneath a natural coral bridge which formed where two fingers of coral meet.
On a Sombrero Reef snorkeling charter, you will see a great variety and large number of beautiful fish, coral & sponges. Parrot fish, hogfish, spiny lobsters, moray eels, green turtles, and gentle nurse sharks are just some of the interesting sea creatures you may see while snorkeling Sombrero reef. More often than not, you will see observant barracuda standing sentinel at the base of the lighthouse, less interested in you than they appear! Locals will tell you that snorkeling in the Keys doesn’t get any better than a trip to Sombrero reef.

WHATS INCLUDED?
Island Girl Charters Marathon offers a private experience for up to 6 guests. It is a short ride to the reef. Once there you will be able to snorkel at your own pace(please bring your own snorkel equipment to assure a good fit) . Island Girl Charters covers all fishing and lobster licenses(you do NOT need a fishing license) All fuel is included.
WHAT SHOULD YOU BRING:
Sunscreen, towels, snorkel equipment, sun protection shirts and hat, sunglasses, camera, underwater camera, a cooler to take your catch home, lip balm with spf, in cooler weather you may want a wetsuit, any food or drink you may want, cooler with ice, swimsuit, shorts, flip flops.
PRIVATE BAY SNORKEL
Island Girl Charters offers a private snorkel experience at different spots in the bay. We call these spots "holes" and we have thousands of locations. Some areas are as shallow as 6 foot and the deepest holes are in about 10 foot of water. Since this is YOUR snorkel trip you decide how long you want to stay at a hole, when you are ready to try a new spot we will go. You can see all sorts of beautiful fish at these holes. Queen angels are common and they are quite large. You can also see snapper, grouper, lobster, tangs, butterfly fish, puffer fish, sea turtles, sharks(usually just nurse sharks) and much more. Bring a lunch if you like and play at your own pace. For this trip you will be in the bay on a deck boat in shallow water. You may also be in the 32 Ft Stamas Center Console, it just depends on the weather. You may even be lucky enough to catch a lobster. We can also provide training for new snorkelers.

Throughout the years we have acquired over 3000 GPS locations to catch lobster .All lobstering gear will be provided(please bring your own snorkel equipment to assure a good fit) if you need snorkel equipment I may be able to provide it for you,(please call) you can also rent snorkel gear from Tildens Dive center. Island Girl Charters covers all fishing and lobster licenses(you do NOT need a fishing license) All fuel is included. I will always have ice on the boat, fell free to bring anything else you may want. This is a snorkel only trip, no diving.

Cancellation policy
If you cancel more than two weeks prior to the date of your trip, you incur no cancellation fee.
If you choose to cancel within 14 days of your scheduled trip, you will incur a $200 cancellation fee. If you cancel within 48 hours of your trip, or you do not show up for your scheduled trip, you will be charged the full amount of your charter.
